Babe Ruths Fall Minimum Play Requirements

 

  1. In the FALL Each player MUST play a minimum of 3 defensive innings. THEY MUST BE COMPLETE INNINGS. NOT FOR JUST ONE OUT. 
  2. All players shall be in the batting line-up.

The Babe Ruth Fall Game Planner (pictured above) assists managers in meeting the minimum play requirements. Here is how to use it:

  1. Write the date, time, field the game was played on, and the opponent's team name on the sheet and keep for your records. This will protect you if someone accuses you of not following the minimum play requirements.  
  2. Write in the batting order.
  3. Write in where you would like players to play under "Game Plan".
  4. Once a player completes their first defensive inning in the infield write down what inning they completed it under Minimum Play. 
  5. Once a player completes their first defensive inning write the inning under "Innings Played".
  6. During the game write in where everybody played during the game under "Actual Position Played During the Game"

Babe Ruths Spring Minimum Play Requirements

 

  1. In the SPRING Each player MUST play a minimum of 3 defensive innings. THEY MUST BE COMPLETE INNINGS. NOT FOR JUST ONE OUT. 
  2. Nine batters along with a 10th "Extra Hitter" if available.

The Babe Ruth Spring Game Planner (pictured above) assists managers in meeting the minimum play requirements. Here is how to use it:

  1. Write the date, time, field the game was played on, and the opponent's team name on the sheet and keep for your records. This will protect you if someone accuses you of not following the minimum play requirements.  
  2. Write in the batting order.
  3. Write in where you would like players to play under "Game Plan".

1. Throwing Mechanics and Pitching 

  1. Emphasis on generating momentum toward the target and following the throw (larger field)
  2. Breaking balls 
  3. Change-ups   
  4. Pitching mechanics and using the body effectively (longer distance)
  5. Pickoff mechanics
  6. Flatwork (drills) g. Introduction to long toss

2. Hitting 

  1. Introduce situational hitting (inside-out swing, hitting behind runners, hit and run, productive outs)
  2. Sacrifice bunting versus bunting for a hit
  3. Understanding the count

3.Base Running

  1. First-and-third situations
  2. Steal breaks
  3. Delayed steals
  4. Reading situations and reacting to them

4. Fielding

  1. Generating momentum back toward the target on throws when necessary
  2. Crossover and drop steps
  3. Backhands and when to use them
  4. Double-play depth
  5. Pitcher covering first
  6. Infield communication

5. Team Fundamentals

  1. Pickoff plays
  2. Full bunt defenses
  3. Full first-and-third defenses
  4. Pop-up and fly ball priorities
  5. Double plays and underhand flips

Five goals for the 15+ age group

1. Throwing Mechanics and Pitching

  1. Long toss
  2. Flatwork (drills)
  3. Continue mastering breaking and off-speed pitches
  4. Throwing for accuracy
  5. Generating momentum toward the target and following the throw
  6. Pickoff mechanics.

2. Hitting

  1. Mental aspects (hitter's count versus pitcher's count)
  2. Two-strike hitting
  3. Aggressive versus defensive swings
  4. Situational hitting
  5. Productive outs
  6. Advanced game situations and defenses

3. Base Running

  1. One-way leads
  2. Going on the first move
  3. Reacting to batted balls
  4. Tag-up situations
  5. Third-base rules
  6. No-out, one-out, and two-out rules.

4. Fielding

  1. Understanding and adapting to playing condition (grass versus dirt, sun, bad fields)
  2. Fence Drill (outfield)
  3. Crossover and drop steps
  4. Do-or-die plays at the plate
  5. Preventing runners from taking extra bases
  6. Communicating between pitches

5. Team Fundamentals

  1. Cutoffs and relays (introduce the trailer concept)
  2. Advanced pickoff plays (daylight play; plays put on by fielders) and when to use them
  3. Double plays
  4. Advanced game situations and defenses
